A Collection of the ACNA College of Bishops Statements
Update March 2, 2026: Timeline with corresponding College of Bishops statements or reports is updated with several 2009-2012 communications thanks to the efforts of several readers!
Blame it on the historian within me, but the recent Reconquista debates led me to revisit some of the old College of Bishops statements throughout the short history of the Anglican Church in North America. History is important. It is crucial in understanding how we got to where we are. It defines us. It recollects and recalls how we got to where we are today. And, if we are faithful to the “faith once delivered,” we are merely stewards, guardians, and proclaimers of that which we have received and neither added nor taken away.
Therefore, since ACNA has seen turnover at the provincial level from Archbishops, staff, volunteers, webpage overhauls, etc., since its founding in 2009, I thought it might be a small service to compile a list of statements, reports, communiques (they vary in terminology over the years) that reflect the statements from the ACNA College of Bishops.
I pray this little service will help those who are curious, and I hope the ACNA website will be organized in such a manner that historical documents and news are collected for prior and future Provincial Council, Provincial Assembly, Task Forces, College of Bishops, and other relevant bodies. Such organizing would serve to benefit the Church overall and our successors in each of these important functions. Further, I do hope and pray that the official records are being kept and managed properly for future church historians, bishops, clergy, and laity to have as a resource.
Please note, I organized the statements by the date listed on the ACNA website, and I believe several statements are missing - either due to webpage updates, my overlooking them, an odd naming convention, or nothing was produced. Despite my best efforts, I cannot find several statements. Therefore, if you have any missing statements (looking at you, online sleuths) please by all means post in the comments, and I will update this post accordingly. I have listed in bold below where I believe I am missing material.
Also, it appears that in some years the statements were essentially press releases, and those are included for context up to this year. To be fair, many of the June/July meetings in the past were simply informing the Church of new bishops whose elections were affirmed by the College (unless I am missing the statements from those years - which I just might). Likewise, it appears statements are lacking in the years when the Provincial Assembly met.
3/2/26 UPDATE: Several intrepid readers were able to find older statements and noted that the College of Bishops statements or reports were often tied into the Provincial Council’s statement. In other words, a unified communication from the representative body of clergy and laity alike. Those earlier reports have been reproduced below. I suspect there are further communications missing from 2010-2013, so please comment if you find those.
ORIGINAL POST: Currently missing any statements predating 2013. The ACNA webpage was created in 2010, and it is possible that the tradition of statements from the College of Bishops did not originate until 2013.
